We are once again arranging our Lower School Activity week, which will take place from 25-29 June.
This year the central theme is ‘water’ and includes a range of activities to form part of the curriculum across a number of subjects. Some of our students have been studying World War 1, which will be included in the Dover trip; the Titanic is included in our visit to Greenwich and they will be doing Science and Geography studies in Reculver, near Herne Bay, amongst other things during the week. Students will also be adding up the ‘food miles’ included in their packed lunches as part of the week, which they will be studying further in Geography.
As we have been fortunate enough to book popular events, we need to ensure that we travel to them in good time.
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday students need to register by 8.45am.
On Thursday and Friday they should register by 8.30am.
Please do make sure that your child arrives on time, as the group will need to leave promptly. Previously students who have arrived late have been very disappointed to find that they cannot join the trip and have had to stay behind for supervised study in the main College.
Students will be back by 4 pm on the trips taking place on Monday to Thursday. However, the Friday trip is slightly extended so that students will be back by 5 pm. Just for this day, we would ask those parents whose children travel on the minibus or are collected by taxi to make arrangements to collect their child. All the students will be waiting to be collected from the College refectory (Chesters) in Star Hill, as New Road House will be closed.
Students will not need their normal school books but should bring/wear the following:
The week’s activities are expected to cost in the region of £80 and students may like to bring some spending money. We would recommend no more than £5 per day. Students should leave valuable items at home. Everyone is looking forward to a very enjoyable week, so it is very important that students behave well and follow the instructions that staff give them. In case of an emergency, if you do NOT wish to give medical consent to emergency treatment please would you inform us in writing.
The itinerary is as follows:
Monday 25.6.12 Chatham Maritime in the morning, including visiting the Billy Childish exhibition and a trip on the Kingswear Castle Paddle Steamer.
Tuesday 26.6.12 day trip to Whitstable. In the morning a visit to the Life Boat Station, lunch on the beach and in the afternoon a talk on the beach by a Marine Biologist: integrating History, Geography and Science. If time allows a trip to the Museum and or Castle and gardens. Please note : Students will not be allowed to paddle or swim.
Wednesday 27.6.12 day trip to Reculver for Coastal Studies.
Parents are also invited to the College to join the children for our annual Summer Festival from 4 pm.
Thursday 28.6.12 day trip to Dover Castle and Underground Hospital Tour.
Friday 29.6.12 day trip to Greenwich to see the Cutty Sark, the Greenwich Maritime to include the Titanic Exhibition and then a boat trip to the Thames Barrier.
We very much hope that the children enjoy their valuable learning experience. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any further information.
